Liverpool enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their modern history during the 2000/01 and 2001/02 campaigns under Gérard Houllier, winning five trophies across 2001 and establishing themselves as one of English football's leading sides.

The 2000/01 season proved particularly memorable, as Liverpool completed a historic cup treble by winning the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup. The Reds also finished third in the Premier League, securing qualification for the following season's UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool's first trophy came in the League Cup, where they defeated Birmingham City on penalties following a 1–1 draw at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Robbie Fowler opened the scoring before Birmingham equalised late in the match, with Liverpool eventually prevailing 5–4 in the shootout.

The FA Cup final against Arsenal produced another dramatic encounter. Trailing 1–0 with less than ten minutes remaining, Liverpool secured a remarkable 2–1 victory through two late goals from Michael Owen, completing a memorable comeback in Cardiff.

Liverpool subsequently lifted the UEFA Cup following an extraordinary 5–4 victory over Deportivo Alavés in Dortmund. The nine-goal final was decided by an own goal in extra time, securing Liverpool's third UEFA Cup and completing their historic treble.

The campaign also marked the emergence of Steven Gerrard as a central figure in Liverpool's midfield. The young Scouser was named PFA Young Player of the Year, while Owen, Fowler, Sami Hyypiä, Jamie Carragher and Dietmar Hamann contributed significantly to the club's success.

Michael Owen's performances earned him the 2001 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Liverpool player to receive the prestigious award. At just 21 years old, the England international was recognised as Europe's leading footballer, crowning a remarkable year in which he played a decisive role in Liverpool's trophy-winning success.

Liverpool continued their momentum into the 2001/02 campaign, having also won the UEFA Super Cup against Bayern Munich and the Charity Shield against Manchester United in August 2001. The Reds subsequently finished second in the Premier League with 80 points, their highest league finish since 1990.

Their return to the Champions League saw Liverpool progress to the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Bayer Leverkusen following a 4–3 aggregate defeat.

Produced by Reebok, the 2000–02 home shirt featured Liverpool's traditional red colours with white detailing and the Carlsberg sponsor. Worn during the club's historic 2000/01 cup treble and subsequent European successes, it remains one of Liverpool's most recognisable shirts of the early 2000s.

Condition
Condition: 8/10 - Excellent

Each item is individually inspected and graded by our team to ensure an accurate representation of its condition.

Every item at The Soccer Archive is individually assessed and graded on our condition scale out of 10. This rating takes into account the overall quality of the fabric, print, badges and any natural signs of wear that come with age.

Most pieces we sell are vintage or pre-owned, meaning small signs of age can be part of their character.

Our condition guide

10/10 - Brand New with Tags
Outstanding condition with no noticeable flaws. Tags may or may not be present, but the item shows little to no sign of wear.

9/10 - Mint
Very strong vintage condition. May show the lightest signs of storage or previous wear, but nothing that distracts from the item overall.

8/10 - Excellent
A well-kept piece with minor signs of age or use. This could include light bobbling, slight fading or very small marks, but it still presents really well.

7/10 - Very Good
Noticeable wear consistent with age. This may include moderate fading, small pulls, bobbling, minor cracking to print or a small mark.

6/10 and below - Good with Noticeable Signs of Wear
More obvious signs of wear or ageing. This might include heavier fading, marks, pulls, print wear or repairs.

Any notable flaws will always be highlighted in the product description and imagery.

Product Care

Vintage sportswear requires a little extra care to help preserve fabric, colour and printed details.

Following the steps below will help protect sponsor logos, badges, namesets and delicate materials.

Washing

- Hand wash where possible. For delicate or older items, hand wash only
- If machine washing, use a cold wash on a gentle cycle
- Wash inside out
- Wash with similar colours
- Use mild detergent only
- Do not bleach
- Avoid fabric softener

Drying

- Air dry naturally
- Hang or dry flat in a well-ventilated space
- Avoid direct heat from radiators and strong sunlight where possible
- Do not tumble dry

Storage

- Store in a cool, dry place
- Keep away from damp environments or direct sunlight
- For long-term storage, fold carefully to avoid stressing prints and badges
- If hanging, use a wide/padded hanger to help maintain shape

Protecting prints, badges and sponsor logos

- Do not iron directly over prints, namesets, patches or sponsor logos
- Avoid excessive heat, as this can damage vinyl, flock and older materials
- Take extra care with vintage shirts that have original printing or delicate embellishments

Vintage pieces often feature delicate materials and original printing, so gentle care will always give the best results.
