2009/10 was a unsettled season for Liverpool with inconsistency as well as injuries resulted with the team to finishing 7th in the league, their lowest finish in 11 years. Failure to progress in any of their domestic cup competitions and a semi-final exit in the Europa League saw the club announce the departure of Rafa Benítez at the end of the season.
