Worn as the Baggies struggled in 2017/18, Tony Pulis began the season as the team's head coach but a poor run of form led to his dismissal in November. He was then succeeded by Alan Pardew, who only lasted until April himself before being replaced by first team coach and former player Darren Moore.

Moore did improve the teams form, winning 3 of his last 6 games but the damage had already been done and the team finished 20th, 5 points off safety.
