Liverpool finished 3rd in 2006/07 and also reached their 2nd Champions League final in 3 seasons before losing 2-1, unable to replicate their heroics of Istanbul in 2005.

The following season the team couldn't improve on either front, finishing 4th in the league and being eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals.
