AC Milan and Juventus have shared some of the most iconic players in Italian football history throughout the years. Baggio. Ibra. Davids. Vieri. Vieira. But none more so than Andrea Pirlo. It is still absolutely crazy that ‘Il Maestro’ was deemed surplus to requirements at San Siro, after winning a total nine trophies with the Rossoneri, including two Champions Leagues and two Serie A titles, the last of which came during his final season with the club.
Juventus were the beneficiaries of Milan’s mistake, and Pirlo went on to win seven trophies with the Old Lady, including four league titles in-a-row. Pirlo also became the only-ever Serie A player to win Player of the Season three times in-a-row, too. Including Milan’s title win in 2011, the midfielder was a league winner five times in five seasons, between 2011 and 2015.
He is undoubtedly Italy’s greatest midfielder, and potentially their best player of all time, but football’s a game of opinions, isn’t it?
