Spurs started the season with a new manager as Andre Vilas Boas was appointed as Harry Redknapp's replacement. Despite finishing 4th in the league the previous season, the club missed out on qualification for the Champions League due to their London rivals winning the Champions League trophy the previous year.

A run in the Europa League ended in the Quarter Finals and 4th round exits in both domestic cup competitions left Spurs with no trophy prospects for another year.
