After Dennis Wise replaced Mark McGhee as Millwall's player-manager, the midfielder led the Lions to the FA Cup for the first time in their history. The club went into the final missing 16 players through injury and suspension and were unable to match their Premier League opposition, eventually losing the game 3-0.
Midfielder Curtis Weston became the youngest player to ever appear in an FA Cup final when he came on a substitute for Wise in the 89th minute, beating a 125-year-old record. As their opponents had already qualified for the Champions League, Millwall qualified for Europe for the first time in their history, entering the UEFA Cup the following season.
