2017/18 saw Lille struggle in Ligue 1 with relegation a serious threat to the team throughout the season. After replacing Marcelo Bielsa mid-season with Christophe Galtier, the new manager eventually secured survival, winning 3 of their last 4 games to finish 17th. Forward Nicolas Pépé finished the season as the teams top scorer with 14 goals.
