Juventus wore this version, with the Tamoil sponsor, for their European games in 2002/03. It gained maximum exposure as the club went all the way to the all-Italian Champions League final before being beaten in a penalty shoot-out, after a goalless draw.
It was the 4th time that Marcelo Lippi had led Juventus to the Champions League final and he also led them to that seasons Serie A title. The success was attributed to his 4–3–1–2 formation which used Pavel Nedvěd as a number 10, the midfielder had one of the best seasons of his career and was awarded the 2003 Ballon d'Or in the wake of his performances.
