“Did you know Paul Lambert won the Champions League with Dortmund?”

Borussia Dortmund faced an uphill battle when they squared off against reigning champions Juventus in the 1997 UEFA Champions League final. An inconsistent domestic form and a squad plagued by injuries made their task seem all the more daunting. For a club that had only participated in three European Cup campaigns in its history, a final appearance was a significant milestone.

Dortmund led 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining when substitute Lars Ricken, who had recently recovered from a motorbike crash, scored with his first touch of the game - a sublime chip over goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi. Ricken's goal secured Dortmund's victory and his place in club folklore.
