Getting to San Siro from Corso di Porta Ticinese
Here are the simplest routes to the San Siro on matchday. Trams and metro are usually quickest; allow extra time close to kick-off.
Tram 16 (Duomo → San Siro Stadio)
35-45 mins door-to-door (incl. short connection)
Approx. €2.20 single ticket (ATM urban fare)
- From Corso di Porta Ticinese, take Tram 3 or walk to Duomo.
- At Duomo, change to Tram 16 towards San Siro Stadio.
- Ride to the final stop “San Siro Stadio – Piazzale Axum”, follow stadium signage.
M2 (Green) → M5 (Lilac) to San Siro Stadio
30-40 mins (fastest, frequent trains)
Approx. €2.20 single ticket (ATM urban fare)
- From Porta Genova (M2) or Sant’Agostino (M2), take M2 to Garibaldi FS.
- Change to M5 (lilac) towards San Siro Stadio.
- Alight at San Siro Stadio (M5); exits are signed for sectors/turnstiles.
Bus + Short Metro (matchday overflow)
40-50 mins (traffic dependent)
Approx. €2.20-€3.00 (depending on connection)
- Use a local bus (e.g., to Lotto or Garibaldi) depending on where you are in Ticinese.
- From there, take M5 (lilac) to San Siro Stadio.
- Follow matchday signage from the station to your gate.
Taxi / Uber
20-35 mins (can be longer around kick-off)
Approx. €20-€45 depending on traffic and time of day
- Call a licensed taxi or book an Uber from Corso di Porta Ticinese.
- Ask for “San Siro – Piazzale Angelo Moratti” or your gate/sector.
- Expect traffic diversions near the stadium on matchdays; drop-offs may occur per police routing.
Travel Tips for Visiting Milano
Buy your tram tickets before boarding
Milano’s ticket inspectors are strict. Always purchase a ticket before getting on trams, buses or the metro - fines are issued on the spot if you’re caught without one. Tickets can be bought from metro stations, newsstands and tabacchi shops.
Arriving from Malpensa Airport
For the easiest journey into the city, use the Malpensa Express. Look for the red ticket machines labelled Malpensa Express in the arrivals area. Trains run regularly to Milano Centrale and Cadorna.
Arriving from Bergamo (Orio al Serio)
There’s no direct train into Milano. The quickest option is a shuttle bus from outside the terminal - Orioshuttle or Terravision are the most reliable, with tickets from around €5. Journey time is roughly 50-60 minutes depending on traffic.
Taxi apps
Taxis in Italy can be expensive, and Uber isn’t widely used. Expect €20-€45 for short to medium trips during non-peak times. The most reliable app for licensed taxis in Milano is Freenow, which gives upfront pricing and faster response times.
Contactless payments
You can use Apple Pay and Google Pay on all metro, tram and train services. Simply tap in at the gate or validator - a handy option if you don’t want to deal with paper tickets.
Matchday Tips - San Siro
A few quick pointers to keep the journey smooth and the experience stress-free on the day of the game.
Arrive Early
Security queues build quickly - aim to arrive 60–90 mins before kick-off, especially for big fixtures.
Tickets Ready
Have your QR/e-ticket open and screen brightness up. Keep ID handy in case of spot checks.
Bag Policy
Small bags only; large backpacks may be refused or sent to storage. Travel light to save time.
Last Trains
Check M5 return times after the final whistle. Services are frequent but crowds slow boarding.
Food & Drink
Eat near Ticinese before you go - stadium queues are long and options limited right before KO.
Gate & Sector
Follow signage for your specific sector. Stewards will direct you - don’t rely solely on maps.
Info subject to matchday operations. Allow extra time around the ground and follow steward guidance.
