2021/22 saw Villa start the season under Dean Smith before he was replaced by Steven Gerrard in mid-November after 5 consecutive losses. The new manager led the team to a 14th placed finish to consolidate their position in the Premier League. Striker Ollie Watkins ended the season as the club's top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions.
