2021/22 saw Bordeaux finish bottom of the league, however they were initially allowed to stay in the top flight after their appeal against relegation to Ligue 2 was accepted by the league.

The club ran into further financial issues and by mid-June the decision had been overturned and they were relegated to the Championnat National, the 3rd tier, by the FFF executive committee.
