In their first season back in the Premier League, Sunderland secured a 7th place finish, their highest ever finish in the Premier League. This was mainly thanks to the red hot form of front man Kevin Phillips. Phillips won the European Golden Shoe in his first top-flight season, scoring 30 goals.
