2022/23 saw the Saints struggle and after a poor start to the season, Ralph Hasenhüttl was sacked in early November with the club in the relegation zone. His replacement Nathan Jones only lasted until February with the team bottom of the table after winning just 1 of his 14 games in charge.

Rubén Sellés took charge as the club's 3rd manager of the season but he was unable to keep Southampton up as their 11 year stay in the top flight came to an end, resulting in relegation to the Championship.
