The design was carried across as the club's 3rd shirt in 2003/04 where Roman Abramovic took ownership of the club and stirred up top-flight football by splashing the cash. A 2nd placed finish in the Premier League followed, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League before a 5–3 aggregate defeat.
