During the 1992/93 season, the Blades competed in the inaugural season of the newly formed Premier League, with striker Brian Deane scoring the first ever Premier League goal after just 5 minutes. The team also reached the FA Cup semi-final, but were beaten by their cross city rivals.

Unfortunately, 1993/94 wasn't as successful as the team struggled under manager Dave Bassett. With little money to spend to improve the side, the club were relegated by just a single point at the end of the season.
