2006 saw El Clasico mean more than it usually does, with Barca and their El Clasico rivals tied on 76 points after 38 games. Despite Barca's superior goal difference, the title was handed to Real Madrid as in La Liga, when there is a points tie, comes down to head to head rather than goal difference.
