Worn across 3 seasons and most notably as Everton won the First Division title in 1986/87. The Toffees were unable to defend their league crown the following season only managing a 4th placed finish.

In 1988/89, they did manage to reach two cup finals but were unable to lift another trophy, being beaten in extra-time by their cross city rivals in the FA Cup final and after extra time in the Full Members Cup final.

“A European champion and World Cup-winning captain”

Lothar Matthäus was a complete midfielder, possessing an array of skills that set him apart from his peers. A mere few months prior to reunification, Matthäus captained West Germany at the 1990 World Cup, netting an impressive four goals to spearhead his country to the final. In the climactic showdown in Bari, the German captain outshone yet another of football's all-time greats in Diego Maradona. The Argentine maestro even went on record to hail Matthäus as his toughest adversary, a compliment that was undoubtedly reciprocated by the West German number 10.
