2022/23 saw Villa start the season under Steven Gerrard before he was replaced by Unai Emery in mid-October after 6 losses and the club in 16th place. The new manager turned the clubs fortunes around and led the team to a 7th placed finish, securing a place in the following seasons Europa Conference League. Striker Ollie Watkins ended the season as the club's top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions.
