After finishing 10th the previous season, Chelsea didn't participate in any European competition for the first time in 20 years. The squad were rejuvenated under Antonio Conte and marched to their 5th Premier League title setting a number of records along they way.

They were unable to complete a league and cup double after a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup final. This season was the last for John Terry, who announced he would leave when his contract ends at the end of the season.
