2016/17 was a hugely successful season for Benfica as they successfully defended their Primeira Liga title for the 4th consecutive season, setting a new record of 36 league titles and winning 4 in a row for the first time in their history.

They also lifted the Taça de Portugal to win their 26th trophy, another new record. With this victory, Benfica also achieved their 11th double and 2nd domestic treble, 36 years after the first.
