Following the club's best league finish the previous season under Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta ended the season in 7th in Serie A and reached the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

The team did also reach the Round of 32 in the Europa League before losing 4-3 on aggregate. Striker Josip Iličić was the teams top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions.
