2004/05 saw the Canaries participate in the Premier League after being promoted as league champions the previous year. They were unable to stay in the top flight as the were relegated back to the Championship after finishing 19th.

2005/06 saw the club hopefully of an immediate return to the Premier League but the team struggled only managing to finish 9th. Striker Dean Ashton was the clubs top scorer with 11 goals in all competitions.
