In 2000/01, Juventus just came up short in Serie A to finish 2nd, just 2 points behind the champions. In the Champions League, it was a major disappointment, getting knocked out in the group stage of the tournament. This was the first time in the club's history that it had been knocked out so early in the competition.
This performance put Carlo Ancelotti's job at risk and at the end of the season his exit was confirmed being replaced by the returning Marcello Lippi. It was also Zidane's last season with Juve as he was sold for a world record fee.
