Hertha had a successful season in 2002/03, after 2 successive eliminations in the UEFA Cup 3rd round, they reached the round of 16 before being eliminated on away goals. Qualification for the UEFA Cup for the 4th consecutive season was achieved with a 5th-placed Bundesliga finish.
