Barcelona ended their 6 year wait for a trophy in 2004/05 by winning the La Liga title. This was led by talisman Ronaldinho and new signing Samuel Eto'o, both of their performances across the season won them places in FIFPro's 2004/05 chosen XI.

Ronaldinho was later named FIFA World Player of the Year for 2005 for the 2nd consecutive year after winning with the highest points total ever. The season also saw the debut of Lionel Messi, starting the teenager on the path to becoming one of the greatest players of all time.
