2003/04 saw Argyle gain promotion as they stormed to the Division Two title. 90 points, 21 clean sheets and a club record of 7 straight clean sheets were achieved despite losing manager Paul Sturrock in March.

2004/05 was a season of consolidation for the team as they avoided relegation, finishing 17th in the Championship under Bobby Williamson.
