2011/12 was a historic season for Chelsea, despite a 6th finish in the league they completed a cup double by winning their seventh FA Cup and their first Champions League. Chelsea lifted the famous trophy after a 4–3 penalty shootout victory after extra time. 

It capped a whirlwind 6 months for manager Roberto Di Matteo who had only taken over as caretaker manager in early March. Captain Frank Lampard was the teams top scorer with 16 goals in all competitions.
