2005/06 saw Birmingham struggle under Steve Bruce eventually finishing 18th in the Premier League, resulting in relegation to the Championship after 4 seasons in the top flight. The clubs also suffered their heaviest ever FA Cup defeat and their heaviest defeat at St Andrew's in any competition, losing 7–0 in the 6th round of the FA Cup.
