2020/21 saw Atalanta finish 3rd in Serie A which meant securing another season of European competition the following year. The club also reached the Coppa Italia final but lost out on the trophy after a 2-1 defeat. Striker Luis Muriel scored 26 goals each in all competitions to win the club's golden boot.
