1990/91 saw Arsenal finished the season as champions for the 2nd time in 3 years, losing just once and also reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Alan Smith was the top scorer in both the league and all competitions, winning the golden boot for the 2nd time.

In 1991/92, the Gunners were unable to retain their title, finishing 4th and 10 points behind the champions. Striker Ian Wright joint the club for a record fee of £2.5 million and scored 26 goals in all competitions in his debut season.
