2005/06 saw Altrincham finish bottom of the league in 22nd place after they were deducted 18 points for fielding an ineligible player. They however managed to avoid relegation due to the restructuring of the league which was increased to 24 teams.

This would be the first of 3 successive seasons in which the club finished in the relegation zone but were spared demotion due to financial issues at other clubs.
