The 1994 World Cup was a remarkable tournament for the Swedish national team. Coached by Tommy Svensson. The Swedes, led by striker Tomas Brolin and captain Jonas Thern, made it to the semi finals, their best World Cup performance since 1958.

Sweden's journey began with impressive wins against Cameroon and Russia in the group stage, followed by a thrilling victory over Saudi Arabia in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, they faced Gheorghe Hagi’s Romania and emerged victorious in a penalty shootout.

In the semi finals, Sweden narrowly lost to eventual champions setting up a 3rd place play off which they won to match their best ever finish in a finals tournament.
