After narrowly missing out on goal difference the previous season, United won an unprecedented 20th English top-flight title with a win over Villa at Old Trafford. Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick, including his iconic long-range volley. The Dutchman finished the season with 26 league goals and 30 goals in all competitions.
The shirt carried over as the 2013/14 3rd shirt but United struggled after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, finishing in 7th. This was their lowest finish since 1990 and before the Premier League had been formed.
