2002/03 saw Charlton in their 3rd consecutive season in the Premier League register a solid mid-table finish. Academy graduate Scott Parker was also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

This season saw the end of centre back Richard Rufus professional playing career after  spending his entire career with the club. Over 11 years the centre back had made 288 appearances, scoring 12 goals.
