2005/06 saw Vitória Guimarães finish 17th to be relegated from the Primeira Liga just a year after finishing in the European qualifying places. The club made it through to the qualifying round to make the group stages of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup but they were unable to make any further progress after only managing to secure a single point in their 4 games.
