The 2002-2003 season was a challenging one for Marseille. With newly appointed Alain Perrin, Marseille managed to finish 3rd in Ligue 1 and exited the Coupe De France in the round of 32. Ivorian Striker Ibrahima Bakayoko finished the season as the club's leading scorer with only 9 goals.
