The 2002 World Cup was a historic moment for South Korea as they co-hosted the tournament. Led by Guus Hiddink, the team's campaign started with a victory and was followed by a draw to qualify for the knockout stages. They won thrilling matches that went into extra time and penalty shootouts before ultimately bowing out in the semi-finals to record their best ever finish in the tournament.
