The season started well for City, going unbeaten in their first 5 matches and taking 10 points from 12 matches. Under the management of Stuart Pearce, in his first full season in charge of the club, he was awarded the Manager of the Month award for August.

That would prove to be the highlight of the season and the club won just once in their final 10 games, a run that saw the team slide down the table and ultimately finish 15th.
