2003/04 saw Heerenveen finish 4th to qualify the following seasons UEFA Cup. The club also reached the finals of the Intertoto Cup before losing 2-1 on aggregate across the 2 legs. Striker Gerald Sibon was the teams top scorer with 15 goals in the league.

2004/05 saw the club reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup before being defeated 4-2 on aggregate in the round of 32.
