In 1999/00, relegation was a serious threat for Monterrey after a season of poor results. Ultimately, the team faced off against Puebla in an end of season relegation decider, Monterrey needing just a draw to stay up and they succeeded securing a 1-1 draw to stay in Mexico's top flight.
