2003/04 season saw Dundee finish 5th in the SPL. The club also made it to the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup but lost to the eventual winners.

After reaching the cup final the previous year, the club also qualified for the UEFA Cup marking the teams first appearance in the competition since the mid 1970's. The European adventure didn't last long as they were eliminated in the 1st round, losing 3-1 on aggregate.
