After finishing 10th the previous season, Chelsea didn't participate in any European competition for the first time since the 1996/97 season. The squad were rejuvenated under Antonio Conte and marched to their 5th Premier League title setting a number of records along they way.

They were unable to complete a league and cup double after a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup final. This season was the last for John Terry, who announced he would leave when his contract ends at the end of the season.
