1984/85 saw Bayern dominate the Bundesliga, leading the table for the whole season to secure their 7th title. They also reached the semi-finals of the Cup Winner's Cup and the final of the DFB-Pokal before losing to Uerdingen, 2-1.

1985/86 was the opposite case for as they didn't lead the Bundesliga until the final day of the season, a 6-0 win at home saw them leapfrog Bremen to retain their trophy on goal difference.
