Manchester United secured their fourth Premier League title in five seasons during the 1996/97 campaign under Sir Alex Ferguson, finishing seven points ahead of Newcastle United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Having completed the domestic double the previous season, United entered the campaign determined to retain their league championship and establish themselves among Europe's leading clubs.
The squad featured established players including Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel, Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Andy Cole, alongside emerging talents David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt. Ferguson also strengthened the squad with the arrival of Norwegian striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who joined from Molde during the summer of 1996.
One of the campaign's most memorable moments came on the opening day against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park. With United leading 2–0, Beckham scored an extraordinary goal from inside his own half, spotting goalkeeper Neil Sullivan off his line and sending a long-range effort into the net.
The goal became one of the defining moments of Beckham's career and remains among the Premier League's most recognisable strikes.
United continued to establish themselves at the top of the table, combining attacking quality with important contributions from their experienced players. Solskjær enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, finishing as the club's leading league scorer with 18 goals.
Manchester United eventually secured the Premier League title with 75 points, recording 21 victories across 38 league fixtures.
In the UEFA Champions League, United progressed to the semi-finals before suffering a 2–0 aggregate defeat against eventual winners Borussia Dortmund. The campaign also marked Cantona's final season as a professional footballer, with the French forward announcing his retirement in May 1997.
Produced by Umbro, the 1996/97 Manchester United away shirt featured a distinctive white design with black-and-red detailing and the Sharp sponsor. Its recognisable mid-1990s styling remains closely associated with Ferguson's title-winning side and Beckham's remarkable halfway-line goal against Wimbledon. Worn during a campaign featuring another Premier League championship and a Champions League semi-final appearance, the shirt represents a memorable period in Manchester United's history.

Condition
Each item is individually inspected and graded by our team to ensure an accurate representation of its condition.
Every item at The Soccer Archive is individually assessed and graded on our condition scale out of 10. This rating takes into account the overall quality of the fabric, print, badges and any natural signs of wear that come with age.
Most pieces we sell are vintage or pre-owned, meaning small signs of age can be part of their character.
Our condition guide
10/10 - Brand New with Tags
Outstanding condition with no noticeable flaws. Tags may or may not be present, but the item shows little to no sign of wear.
9/10 - Mint
Very strong vintage condition. May show the lightest signs of storage or previous wear, but nothing that distracts from the item overall.
8/10 - Excellent
A well-kept piece with minor signs of age or use. This could include light bobbling, slight fading or very small marks, but it still presents really well.
7/10 - Very Good
Noticeable wear consistent with age. This may include moderate fading, small pulls, bobbling, minor cracking to print or a small mark.
6/10 and below - Good with Noticeable Signs of Wear
More obvious signs of wear or ageing. This might include heavier fading, marks, pulls, print wear or repairs.
Any notable flaws will always be highlighted in the product description and imagery.
