Aston Villa finished seventh in the Premier League during the 2022/23 campaign, securing qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League following an impressive transformation under Unai Emery.
Villa began the season under Steven Gerrard, hoping to improve upon their 14th-place finish the previous year. The squad featured established players including Ollie Watkins, John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey, Emiliano Martínez and Tyrone Mings, alongside summer arrivals Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.
However, a difficult opening period saw Villa struggle for consistency, with Gerrard departing in October 2022 following six defeats in the opening 11 Premier League fixtures.
Emery was subsequently appointed manager, taking charge of his first league match against Manchester United in November. Villa secured a memorable 3–1 victory at Villa Park, beginning an impressive improvement in performances and results.
Under Emery, the team developed a more structured approach, combining defensive organisation with effective attacking movement and greater consistency.
Watkins became an increasingly influential figure, scoring important goals as Villa climbed the Premier League table. The England international enjoyed a particularly productive second half of the season, scoring in five consecutive Premier League appearances between February and April.
Villa also recorded notable victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion during their pursuit of European qualification. Their final-day 2–1 victory over Brighton secured seventh place with 61 points, confirming qualification for the following season's Europa Conference League.
The achievement represented Villa's first qualification for a major European competition since the 2010/11 campaign. Watkins finished as the club's leading scorer with 16 goals across all competitions, while Ramsey, McGinn and Luiz made important contributions throughout the season.
Although Villa's domestic cup campaigns ended relatively early, their remarkable league improvement under Emery provided considerable encouragement for the future.
Produced by Castore, the 2022/23 Aston Villa away shirt featured a light-blue colourway with contrasting claret detailing, incorporating the club crest, Castore branding and the Cazoo sponsor. The design offered a modern interpretation of Villa's traditional colours and became associated with Emery's first campaign in charge. Worn during the club's rise from the lower half of the Premier League to European qualification, the shirt represents an important turning point in Villa's recent history.

Condition
Each item is individually inspected and graded by our team to ensure an accurate representation of its condition.
Every item at The Soccer Archive is individually assessed and graded on our condition scale out of 10. This rating takes into account the overall quality of the fabric, print, badges and any natural signs of wear that come with age.
Most pieces we sell are vintage or pre-owned, meaning small signs of age can be part of their character.
Our condition guide
10/10 - Brand New with Tags
Outstanding condition with no noticeable flaws. Tags may or may not be present, but the item shows little to no sign of wear.
9/10 - Mint
Very strong vintage condition. May show the lightest signs of storage or previous wear, but nothing that distracts from the item overall.
8/10 - Excellent
A well-kept piece with minor signs of age or use. This could include light bobbling, slight fading or very small marks, but it still presents really well.
7/10 - Very Good
Noticeable wear consistent with age. This may include moderate fading, small pulls, bobbling, minor cracking to print or a small mark.
6/10 and below - Good with Noticeable Signs of Wear
More obvious signs of wear or ageing. This might include heavier fading, marks, pulls, print wear or repairs.
Any notable flaws will always be highlighted in the product description and imagery.
