Very good condition. Club crest and Nike Swoosh are embroidered. Club sponsor is flock and embossed with some colour wear. Player name/number are flock and heat applied. Various small pulls and bobbles across shirt. Some colour wear to white elements of shirt, stitching in excellent condition.

Arsenal wore this home shirt across the 1998/99 and 1999/00 campaigns under Arsène Wenger, a period that saw the club challenge for domestic honours and reach the UEFA Cup final.

Having secured the Premier League and FA Cup Double in 1997/98, Arsenal entered the following season determined to build upon their success. The squad featured established players including Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, Tony Adams, Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Nicolas Anelka and goalkeeper David Seaman.

Arsenal mounted another strong Premier League title challenge during 1998/99, remaining in contention with Manchester United until the final stages of the campaign.

However, a 1–0 defeat against Leeds United in their penultimate league fixture proved decisive, with Wenger's side eventually finishing second with 78 points, just one behind Manchester United.

The Gunners also reached the FA Cup semi-finals, where they faced United in a closely contested tie. Following a goalless draw in the opening match, the replay ended in a memorable 2–1 victory for United, with Ryan Giggs scoring the decisive extra-time goal.

The following season brought significant changes to Arsenal's squad, with Anelka departing for Real Madrid and Thierry Henry arriving from Juventus. Henry quickly established himself as an important attacking figure, finishing his debut campaign as Arsenal's leading goalscorer with 26 goals across all competitions.

Domestically, Arsenal finished second in the Premier League with 73 points, 18 behind champions Manchester United. In European competition, the Gunners entered the UEFA Champions League but finished third in their group, subsequently transferring to the UEFA Cup.

Arsenal progressed through the knockout rounds, eliminating Nantes, Deportivo La Coruña, Werder Bremen and Lens to reach the final against Galatasaray. However, following a goalless draw after extra time, the Turkish side secured a 4–1 penalty shootout victory in Copenhagen.

Despite finishing both campaigns without major silverware, Arsenal remained among England's leading clubs, with the arrival of Henry marking an important stage in Wenger's development of the squad.

Produced by Nike, the 1998–00 Arsenal home shirt featured the club's traditional red body with contrasting white sleeves, complemented by navy detailing and the distinctive JVC sponsor. The design remains closely associated with Wenger's early Arsenal side, worn by Bergkamp, Vieira and Adams during consecutive Premier League title challenges, before Henry's arrival in 1999. Its recognisable late-1990s styling and association with several of the club's most celebrated players make it a memorable Arsenal shirt from the Highbury era.

Condition
Condition: 7/10 - Very Good

Each item is individually inspected and graded by our team to ensure an accurate representation of its condition.

Every item at The Soccer Archive is individually assessed and graded on our condition scale out of 10. This rating takes into account the overall quality of the fabric, print, badges and any natural signs of wear that come with age.

Most pieces we sell are vintage or pre-owned, meaning small signs of age can be part of their character.

Our condition guide

10/10 - Brand New with Tags
Outstanding condition with no noticeable flaws. Tags may or may not be present, but the item shows little to no sign of wear.

9/10 - Mint
Very strong vintage condition. May show the lightest signs of storage or previous wear, but nothing that distracts from the item overall.

8/10 - Excellent
A well-kept piece with minor signs of age or use. This could include light bobbling, slight fading or very small marks, but it still presents really well.

7/10 - Very Good
Noticeable wear consistent with age. This may include moderate fading, small pulls, bobbling, minor cracking to print or a small mark.

6/10 and below - Good with Noticeable Signs of Wear
More obvious signs of wear or ageing. This might include heavier fading, marks, pulls, print wear or repairs.

Any notable flaws will always be highlighted in the product description and imagery.

Product Care

Vintage sportswear requires a little extra care to help preserve fabric, colour and printed details.

Following the steps below will help protect sponsor logos, badges, namesets and delicate materials.

Washing

- Hand wash where possible. For delicate or older items, hand wash only
- If machine washing, use a cold wash on a gentle cycle
- Wash inside out
- Wash with similar colours
- Use mild detergent only
- Do not bleach
- Avoid fabric softener

Drying

- Air dry naturally
- Hang or dry flat in a well-ventilated space
- Avoid direct heat from radiators and strong sunlight where possible
- Do not tumble dry

Storage

- Store in a cool, dry place
- Keep away from damp environments or direct sunlight
- For long-term storage, fold carefully to avoid stressing prints and badges
- If hanging, use a wide/padded hanger to help maintain shape

Protecting prints, badges and sponsor logos

- Do not iron directly over prints, namesets, patches or sponsor logos
- Avoid excessive heat, as this can damage vinyl, flock and older materials

Vintage pieces often feature delicate materials and original printing, so gentle care will always give the best results.
