2016/17 saw Sampdoria finish 10th Serie A under Marco Giampaolo and also reaching the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia. Fabio Quagliarella ended the season as the club's top league scorer with 12 goals but Luis Muriel and Patrik Schick shared the overall top scorer award with 13 each in all competitions.
